Hela Undialu Education Foundation (or HUEF in short) is hereby established for students who are native of Hela Province located in the uppermost Highlands region of Papua New Guinea with the aim to assist with Tuition Fee (Tuition Fee Assistance or TFA) in any tertiary institutions in the country and abroad.
This initiative was started in 2018 when Hon. Philip Aja Undialu became the second Governor for the province to join the tenth Parliament of sovereign State of Papua New Guinea.
OUR AIM
Our aim is in line with VISION 2050 by Department of Education which states as follows:
" We will be Smart, Wise, Fair, Healthy and Happy Society by 2050.
And also to catch up with the Medium Term Development Strategy goals (2005-2010) of Papua New Guinea.
We will be ranked in the top 50 countries in the United Nations Human Development Index by 2050 creating opportunities for personal and national advancement through economic growth, smart innovative ideas, quality service and ensuring fair and equitable distribution of benefits in a safe and secure environment for all citizens."
OUR MOTTO
"Helping you learn today to lead tomorrow"
Our motto, “helping you learn today, to lead tomorrow,” reflects our belief that today’s Hela students will be ready to lead Hela according to their levels and in their own ways in the future as they grow into adulthood. The phrase is true — our children have vast potential, and they are certainly learning during their school days; however, through our assistance, they are not waiting until tomorrow to put their leadership skills to work! That's why, we assist to make them realise their dreams of leadership in any field they may become in the future.
While attending to their studies in their respective tertiary institutions in the country and abroad, they are also carrying Hela flag and learning to become leaders in SRC, student cultural groups, social groupings, religious groups, etc, thus Hela Undialu Education Foundation is aimed at helping them to learn as much as they could today at this age so that they become the leaders tomorrow. We are designed to accommodate youths of all abilities regardless of whatever groupings and categories. Hon. Philip Undialu's dream is big and meaningful to improve lives — not only embodying our ethical values but demonstrating our youth’s innate kindness while deepening their understanding of their connection to their Hela community, Papua New Guinea and the world we live.
In the words of the late Dr. Stephen R. Covey, whose legacy is built upon his teachings about principle-centered leadership, “Leadership is a choice, not a position.” We couldn’t agree more. Leaders here in our country and province are not just those who have been elected to Parliament or are the leaders of a team. They have been students like the ones we aim to help and who were the ones open to learning how to bring out the best in themselves and others. By helping them, we also aim to nurture their empathy, creativity, compassion, and civility, and with a hope to encourage them to respect one another’s unique approaches and ideas and kill the stereotypical name tags we endure daily. Our assistance is aimed to bridge the gap between rich and poor and clear the path for bringing about the best solutions for many social problems we face today. And it’s what true leaders do for better tomorrow for all of us.
It would be so gratifying to see our Hela youths grow with knowledge and wisdom. Hon. Philip Undialu and team of HUEF have every confidence that they will be well-suited with our assistance to learn to lead us to a better tomorrow.
HUEF BENEFICIARIES
HUEF beneficiaries are all Hela students regardless of gender, social or religious status or political affiliations. It helps both governmental and private institutions in the country and abroad. Also, we help students who may not be from Hela in flesh. The children whose parents have been working in a Public Sector or a religious ministries for more than 3 years in the province are assisted. This is because, when others categorised as no go zone by other citizens, these people had Hela in their heart and being serving Hela so our gratitude and long lasting friendship are shown through HUEF TFA Assistance.
